About Sugar Land, Texas

Sugar Land is a city located in Fort Bend County, along the Gulf Coast, inside the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metro area. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Texas. In the last decade, it has grown more than 158 percent. The 2006 US Census Bureau indicated the city's population was almost 80,000.

Sugar Land was founded as a sugar plantation in the early mid 1800's, and was actually incorporated in 1959.

Sugar Land is the third largest in population, and the second largest in economic activities of the Houston area.

Sugar Land is the headquarters of Imperial Sugar, and the company's main refinery and distribution center was at one time located in Sugar Land as well.

To continually celebrate this heritage, the crown logo of Imperial Sugar is seen in both the city seal and logo.

Sugar Land is also the headquarters for Western Airways, as well as a major manufacturing facility for Nalco Chemical Company.

Sugar Land hosts many international energy, software, engineering and product firms.

Just this year, forbes.com chose Sugar Land, along with Bunker Hill Village and Hunters Creek Village, as one of the three Houston area "Top Suburbs To Live Well," making mention of its affluence despite its large population.
